Ercol furniture holds a special place in my heart, and I've been a fan for quite some time. The craftsmanship and quality of their pieces are truly remarkable, and they have certainly stood the test of time. However, it seems that some of the ranges with a darker finish are not as popular at the moment.
Recently, I had the fortunate opportunity to come across a stunning Ercol Colonial Dresser near our Lichfield workshop. It was in excellent condition, with just a bit of wear on the dark varnish over the dresser top. This made it the perfect candidate for an upcycling project in our workshop.
After a trip to B and Q and my local Fusion Mineral Paint Stockist in Lichfield, A Cupboard Less Ordinary, to grab some extra furniture upcycling supplies, I was ready to get to work and transform this unloved dresser into something that was more suitable for a modern home.
Vintage furniture always oozes character and I believe in utilising this character whenever I upcycle furniture, not hiding it. Its what makes upcycled furniture work so well. This colonial dresser simply screamed farmhouse kitchen to me, so after stripping back the top and shelving to reveal the Elm grain that Ercol is so famous for, I decided on Fusion mineral paints Sacred Sage to lighten the piece, but keep its charm. The colour Beautifully compliments the exposed grain and adds a freshness that was missing from the piece before.
This beautiful upcycled dresser is now sold, but if you'd like to discuss the possibility of having a piece of furniture upcycled in lichfield by us, please get in touch.
